For the last month, we've been working our fingers away creating an exciting new experience for Girl Scouts close to home. We know how important it is for girls of all ages to get their hands into STEM, so we wanted to provide the coolest and most fun activities that will help them towards some of their badges every step of their Girl Scout journey.
Not only have we been able to correlate some of our Watershed Walkabout: Cape Fear activities to badge and patch requirements, but our Explore Your Watershed: Adventure Guide counts too! Although we hope to be able to provide guidance as a lead in these activities and bring the science to Girl Scout troops, we know that distance from Wilmington, NC, and costs, may not work for some troops. So we've pushed our creative minds one step further.
Over the last few weeks we've been putting together a special book designed specifically for Girl Scouts North Carolina Coastal Pines! This book contains all the written out lesson plans that we would normally come and do with the girls, plus guides troop leaders to working with the Adventure Guide book to give the girls an extra field experience. Not only that, troop leaders can now purchase both books directly from our website: www.teachmarinecsi.com/girl-scout-badges
On our Watershed Walkabout: Cape Fear end, we've been working with getting the word out to summer camps, libraries, and homeschools that we are available for programming this summer. We will be working with Communities in Schools - Pender County again this summer and teaching their campers about crab population decline in the estuary using mini-marshmallows! It's a great visual activity to show a true-to-life situation and it's a yummy summer treat.
If anyone wants us to work with their summer camp or homeschool group, you can find a listing of all our provided activities on our Watershed Walkabout page or you can email us at education@teachmarinecsi.com to get more information from our Director of Education.
